Over 40? Let’s talk PROTEIN + FIBER! Protein get Over 40? Let’s talk PROTEIN + FIBER!

Protein gets a lot of attention (and for good reason!), but let’s not forget about fiber! Both are especially important as we age, supporting muscle health, digestion, gut health, blood sugar regulation, and keeping us feeling satisfied.

One of my favorite ways to get more of both? A big, beautiful, nourishing grain bowl!

Here’s my simple formula for building your own:

🌾 1. Choose your grain: Quinoa, brown rice, farro, or whatever you love.

🥦 2. Load up on seasonal veggies: Roast zucchini, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, or whatever looks good at the market. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper and roast at 400°F for about 30-40 minutes, depending on the vegetable.

💪 3. Add your protein: Beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, ground turkey, beef, chicken, or salmon. Mix and match! Beans are especially wonderful because they provide both protein AND fiber.

🥑 4. Add some healthy fats: Avocado, seeds, nuts, or a delicious dressing.

🍋 5. Don’t forget the dressing! This is what brings everything together.

My Creamy Lemon Maple Tahini Dressing:

• ¼ cup tahini
•1 tbsp olive oil
• 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
• 1–2 tsp pure maple syrup
• 1-2 minced fresh garlic clove
• 2–4 tbsp water (to thin)
• ¼ tsp sea salt, or to taste

Whisk everything together, adding water a little at a time until smooth and creamy. It may seem thick at first, just keep whisking!

Drizzle generously over your bowl and enjoy!

The beauty of this meal is that you can prep the ingredients once and create different combinations throughout the week.

Healthy aging isn’t about eating less. It’s about nourishing your body with more of what it needs.

✨ Save this formula for your next meal prep. Let me know if you make this.

🌑✨ New Moon, new cycle, new beginnings. There’s s 🌑✨ New Moon, new cycle, new beginnings.

There’s something extra special about welcoming the New Moon just as my menstrual cycle begins.

In lunar wellness traditions, menstruating around the New Moon is sometimes called a White Moon Cycle a beautiful symbolic alignment of two cycles associated with renewal, reflection, and turning inward. I love using this alignment as a reminder to honor my body’s natural rhythms.

During menstruation, I’m especially mindful of nourishing my body with:

Iron-rich foods like beans, lentils, quinoa, and leafy greens to help replenish iron lost through menstrual bleeding.

Vitamin C-rich seasonal vegetables to support the absorption of plant-based iron.

Magnesium-rich foods like pumpkin seeds, nuts, and leafy greens to support normal muscle function.

Complex carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and whole grains for satisfying, sustained energy.

Along with nourishing meals, I’m making space for gentle movement, rest, and little rituals that help me feel grounded.

♎ And with Libra season inviting us to reflect on balance, beauty, and our relationships, I’m asking myself:

Where could I create more balance and harmony in my life? And am I giving myself the same care I so freely give to others?

Sometimes a fresh start doesn’t require doing more. Just listening a little more closely to what we need.

Happy New Moon! 🌑🤍

Do you notice any connection between your menstrual cycle and the moon?

One of my favorite things about seed cycling is th One of my favorite things about seed cycling is that it reminds me to pay attention to where I’m at in my menstrual cycle.

Our bodies change throughout our cycle and it affects our energy, appetite, mood, sleep, and even how we feel during exercise as our hormones fluctuate.

Seed cycling is a simple food ritual that provides specific nutrients to help support you during the 2 halves of your menstrual cycle.

MENSTRUATION-OVULATION Follicular phase
Blend up 1 tablespoon of
Flax + Pumpkin Seeds

Flax contains fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and lignans (plant compounds that are often studied for their relationship with estrogen metabolism).

Pumpkin seeds provide zinc, magnesium, healthy fats and other micronutrients that support overall reproductive and metabolic health.

AFTER OVULATION -YOUR NEXT PERIOD
Luteal phase
Sesame + Sunflower seeds
Blend up to 1 tablespoon and add it to your daily routine in smoothies or sprinkle on bowls or salads.

Sesame seeds are another source of lignans, along with healthy fats, minerals and antioxidants.

Sunflower seeds are especially rich in vitamin E and also provide selenium, magnesium and healthy fats which are nutrients our bodies need for normal cellular and hormonal function.

So why switch the seeds?

The theory behind seed cycling is that the nutrients in flax + pumpkin are particularly supportive during the estrogen-dominant first half of the cycle, while sesame + sunflower provide nutrients that may support the body during the progesterone-dominant second half.

Every time I reach for my seeds I’m reminded of exactly where I am during my cycle and that tiny checkin reminds me to notice what my body might need that today: more rest, more fuel, different movement, extra recovery, or maybe more space and grace for myself.
